Fuel thieves striking in South Bucks
DRIVERS are being warned to keep an eye on their cars after incidents of fuel siphoning in South Bucks.
South Bucks District Council have warned drivers after police said there has been an increase in the number of victims reporting that fuel had been siphoned from their vehicle.
Neighbourhood Inspector Bhupinder Rai said: "Having fuel taken from your vehicle causes a great inconvenience for residents as many of them rely on their vehicles to get to work or to take their children to school. It can also cost a lot of money to have your car repaired, and the repairs generally cost more than the petrol they've taken. Nobody can sit up watching their car all night but leaving it somewhere well-lit, enclosed or close to windows so you might hear if anyone is tampering with your vehicle can help."
South Bucks District Councillor Shorne Tilbey, Portfolio Holder for Community, added: "It's important people know what is happening. Offenders are causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage to cars to steal a small amount of fuel and this is completely unacceptable. The District Council and Police are working together to identify hotspot areas and to make the public more vigilant about fuel theft and securing vehicles in general."
Many of the incidents are taking place over night so anyone who sees anything suspicious or anybody wandering around the area with large containers, pipes or cordless drills, then report it to police on 08458 505505.
