Electrical fire causes Slough power cut
Fire crews from Maidenhead and Slough put out a blaze at an unmanned electricity sub-station in Taplow last night causing blackout across Slough.
Two engines from each station were called at 9pm to tackle the fire on Bath Road, Taplow, to assist a crew from Beaconsfield.
The fire caused a loss of electrical supply to around 700 homes in Slough, Burnham, Taplow and Farnham Common.
Grahame Keddi, spokesman for Southern Electric, said: "The power went down at around 8.30pm and by 9pm our engineers were on site but obviously the fire service were taking the lead at that time.
"We got access to the site at 2am and electrical supply was restored to our customers by 4.30am."
The cause of the fire is still being investigated but firefighters believe an electrical fault was to blame.
