Homes redevelopment project nears reality
MAJOR redevelopment plans in a multi million pound regeneration project are set to be given the green light on Wednesday.
Twenty-seven new homes, proposed as part of the Britwell regeneration scheme, are recommended for approval by the council's planning committee.
The plans are considered as an important step for the scheme and will bring the demolition of the 'eyesore' Wentworth Avenue tower block one step closer.
Council leader Rob Anderson said: "Bringing the applications for these two housing sites to planning committee is an important step forward for Britwell Regeneration.
"This is the first version of the regeneration scheme which has solved the problem of re-housing those in the Wentworth Avenue flats, allowing them to be demolished and the residents moved to nearby family housing. When I speak to local residents and occupants their number one priority is the demolition of the flats."
Eighteen homes are proposed on the site of the old Newbeech House, in Long Readings Lane, and nine on the site of the library and former service station, Wentworth Avenue
John Rice, assistant director for environment and regeneration, added: "These 33 new homes are key to being able to move people out of the Wentworth Avenue tower block and into better accommodation.
"With the residents re-housed we can then demolish what has been an eyesore for many decades."
The Britwell regeneration scheme is a multi-million scheme to bring new homes and new shops to local residents.
The scheme includes the creation of a brand new community hub and library building.
