A WOMAN who defrauded her employers has been ordered to repay £95,000 or face further time behind bars.

Jane Valerie Burford, 47, from Northolt in Middlesex, admitted stealing the money from Palmac Electrical Services Ltd, in Richings Park, Iver, where she worked as an office manager between May 2010 and August 2011.

She was arrested in September last year and was charged with fraud by abuse of position before being sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court to 21 months in jail in November.

The confiscation order was made by Thames Valley Police's Economic Crime Unit (ECU) at Oxford Crown Court on Monday last week and Burford must pay the money back by August or face a further two years in prison.

Her deception was discovered after a trader complained to the company, and investigations found that she had stolen more than £87,000 in 20 unauthorised transactions.

Christopher Yoxall, from the ECU, said: "The business nearly failed owing to a relentless series of thefts by the defendant.

"She endangered the livelihoods of several people and only stopped when confronted by her crimes.

"This example of swift action shows support for victims and ensuring that offenders do not profit from offending."

Det Insp Gavin Tyrrell, from the ECU, said: "This is an excellent result showing the determination we have to remove the cash from crime.

"I hope that our communities are reassured that we are working hard to make sure that in the Thames Valley, crime won't pay."

Anyone who thinks someone is living off the proceeds of crime, should call Thames Valley Police via the 24-hour non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or visit www. crimestoppers-uk.org
