RESIDENTS are being encouraged to get on their bike for the biggest ever celebration of cycling.
Slough Borough Council, along with British Cycling, are looking for residents to train up as 'Sky Ride Leaders' to take charge of four rides each in the spring, summer and autumn of 2012.
The training will provide ride leaders with a qualification and help inspire cyclists to get more out of biking by showing how to plan, deliver and evaluate cycling sessions.
Each leader will receive free kit, training, support and payment for delivering Sky Ride local bike rides and training sessions will be held in Slough on March 24 and March 31.
Cllr James Swindlehurst, commissioner for neighbourhoods and renewal, said: "Slough Borough Council wants to get people cycling for commuting and as a sporting activity.
"The Heart of Slough Project has seen the introduction of new cycle paths and combined with Sky Ride, this is an excellent opportunity to get Slough cycling and to generate interest in cycling at the Olympics.
"I've just had my bike serviced and intend to get back on the saddle as the weather warms up, so I would encourage all those who love the outdoors to do the same and join a Sky Ride Local."
