A RAPIST has been jailed for more than 12 years for the sexual abuse of two children.

Oliver Connor was given a 12-and-a-half-year sentence on Monday at Reading Crown Court for offences that happened in Slough and Burnham Beeches between 1979 and 1982.

In February the 72-year-old of Lancing, West Sussex, was found guilty of attempted rape, rape and three counts of indecent assault on a 12-year-old girl in Slough and Burnham Beeches between 1979 and 1982.

At the time, the jury were unable to reach a verdict on two counts of indecent assault and one rape relating to a second victim - an eight-year-old girl - that took place in Slough between 1979 and 1980.

A retrial took place last week and he was found guilty.

Connor will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and on his release will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

DC Eddie Hurley, from Thames Valley Police's Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: "We are delighted with the sentencing, and hope it brings some form of closure to the victims after all this time."

Although Connor was arrested in Sussex, he has lived in the Slough and Burnham Beeches area and moved around the UK.
