A SUPERMARKET has been forced to put on extra staff after 'shocking’ fights erupt when discount food is brought out.
Tesco in Wellington Street, Slough has been forced to put on the extra staff to deal with customers who have allegedly been fighting over bargain fruit and vegetables.
Slough MP Fiona Mactaggart raised the issue in a debate in the House of Commons yesterday on food banks.
Ms Mactaggart said: “Not only are people depending on food banks, but poor people in Slough are now fighting each other in the local Tesco when discount vegetables and fruit come out.
“A constituent texted me yesterday to say that he observed such fights on three separate occasions and that Tesco now has to put on security to deal with the issue.
“Is that not shocking in the 21st century?” A Tesco spokeswoman said: “The reduced to clear offers at the end of the day are really popular with our customers, so when the store is busy we have colleagues on hand to manage the reductions to make sure all our customers can shop safely.”
