A CHARITY has been given a funding boost to help disadvantaged children in the town.

Home-Start Slough has received a £3,295 grant from Berkshire Community Foundation as part of the Give a Child a Chance scheme.

It will help the charity, based in Burnham High Street, work with families to get them back on their feet in troubled times.

Sam Daynes, fundraiser for Home-Start Slough, said: “We’re over the moon to receive this generous grant as it will go a long way in helping us reach families and their children in need.

“Our charity really does make a difference to the lives of children and their parents and grants like this help us to recruit and train our volunteers to support families by creating a caring, non-judgemental environment for people to flourish.

“Over the last year, we have helped almost 100 families get their lives back, but still need to help many more who are struggling for so many reasons.” Home-Start Slough helps parents, with at least one child under five, who are suffering from stress and difficulties ranging from mental health issues, physical or mental disability and financial deprivation.

Jess Nicholls, grants manager at Berkshire Community Foundation, added: “Organisations like Home-Start Slough are vital to our communities and it is important local people recognise the work done by our local charities. Berkshire Community Foundation supports local charities and community groups through our grant making and hopes this donation will help Home-Start grow and continue the great work they are doing for families in Slough and Burnham.”
