CHILDREN’S centre bosses have pledged their services are on the track to improvement after a damning Ofsted.

The service, outsourced to Cambridge Education since September last year, was ranked as 'inadequate’ by education watchdogs in June.

It was Slough Borough Council’s third inadequate rating for services relating to looking after children in the space of a few months.

Jean Cameron, development manager for children’s centres at Slough council, told scrutiny panel councillors on Monday things were improving.

“Partners are working closely to make sure no child is falling through the net,” she said. “They [Ofsted inspectors] were seeing good quality practice and the right service to the right families, but one of the things we couldn’t put on the table was that data to evidence the impact of what we were doing. We have moved on considerably from then.” She said data is now being collated to map children’s attainment.

The children’s centre group is made up of 10 centres serving more than 13,000 Slough children aged under five.
