FIREFIGHTERS smashed through the shutters of a fast food takeaway to rescue a family of six trapped in the flat upstairs as a blaze engulfed the shop.

They ripped open the shutters of K’s takeaway shop, in Chalvey Road West, before evacuating the two adults and four children, all aged under 12, at 4am on Thursday.

Crew spent three hours battling the blaze which devastated the shop – ruining stock, equipment and furniture. Owner Abdul Jabal, speaking outside the property on Thursday morning, said: “Everything has gone. It’s all ruined.” He said a passer-by saw smoke billowing from the shop before calling firefighters, adding: “It was lucky someone noticed it, it could have been a lot worse.” He said it was hard to estimate how much damage it had caused, but the bill could run into tens of thousands of pounds.

Four firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the blaze. Watch manager Hayden Jenkins, from Slough Fire Station, said: “It was quite a severe fire in the food preparation area of the restaurant.

“There was extensive damage to the whole of the ground floor of the restaurant. We believe that it was caused by an electrical fault in a food warmer.”
