THE site of a former police station could be transformed into 13 homes after being put up for sale.

The old Burnham Police Station, in Stomp Road, was put on the market last month, and architects have drawn up a scheme for 13 new-build residential properties on the 0.66 acre site.

Lambert Smith Hampton estate agents is conducting the sale after Thames Valley Police moved Burnham officers to a new station in Taplow last year.

A description of the property on the estate agents’ website states: “Freehold for sale due to relocation. Residential development potential opportunity, either by way of new build, conversion, or a mix of both.

“The property comprises an attractive detached police station retaining many features as well as two detached residential houses to the rear of the site.

“The site benefits from easy access to A4/M4 commuter links and Burnham train station, and is close to schools and amenities. There is a strong prospect of planning consent.” It is unclear how much the property is on the market for, but Kevin Wood, Lambert Smith Hampton associate director, said the price it sells for depends on the potential use, as the money would go back into the public purse.

Lambert Smith Hampton also stated the local planning authority – South Bucks District Council – is 'sympathetic to a residential use on the site, supported by a pre-application response’.

Cllr Hilary Evans, chairman of Burnham Parish Council planning committee, did not comment on the possibility of homes on the site, but was concerned about the over-building in Burnham.

She said: “Our concern on the planning committee is that we are having situations that an application comes through to demolish one property and build four. If this sort of thing goes on, the whole attractiveness of Burnham will diminish quite considerably. It will fill Burnham and completely change the look of the village.

“I would think there would be a lot of serious concerns in the village if a building that has been there for a long time goes.

“It is a very nice building on the inside, but I think there are a lot of really nice things that could happen to it if people put in the right application.”
