COUNCILLORS and the community have thrown their weight behind the fundraising for a war memorial restoration project.

A further £2,130 has been pledged towards the restoration of Burnham’s War Memorial.

Paul Kelly, district councillor, has donated £280, Lin Hazel, county councillor, has donated £950, Dev Dhillon, county councillor, has donated £500, Paul Sherriff and his family have donated £100, Edwina Glover, parish councillor, has donated £50 and £250 has been obtained from the Burnham Services charity.

The restoration fund now only has a further £1,356.70 to raise thanks to a kick-start in funding from the Grants for War Memorials scheme in December.

Jackie Slater, secretary for the Burnham Royal British Legion, said: “The War Memorial is an integral part of Burnham’s history ensuring that the memory of those who gave their lives in the Great War is maintained for generations to come.” A War Memorial fundraising night will be held at the Royal British Legion on February 28, from 7.30pm.
