COLLECTING a loaf of bread is a bit more of a highlight then usual this week, as bakery staff have donned onesies in memory of a good friend and colleague.

To mark the one year anniversary of friend Diane Sturgeon’s death on Thursday, 26, as well as what would have been her 41st birthday on Saturday (28), staff at Iver Village Bakery have raised money for Transplant Sport UK by wearing onesies all week.

Mrs Sturgeon, from Langley, passed away as a result of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma but at 22-years-old she had a liver transplant at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Throughout her life she was very involved with Addenbrooke Transplant Games Team, which prides itself on 'promoting organ donation awareness and celebrating the Gift of Life’ by engaging liver and kidney transplant recipients in sporting events.

Between 1998 and 2007, Mrs Sturgeon represented the team in the British Transplant Games, organised by Transplant Sport UK, competing in volleyball, the long jump, 100m, 200m and the 400m relay.

In total she collected 38 medals in gold, silver and bronze and she was also selected to represent Great Britain in games held in France and Japan.

Steph Noyce, a staff member at the bakery, said: “Diane was a really important part of my life and other people’s lives.” “We thought we’d support something that was a part of her.” John Sturgeon, Mrs Sturgeon’s husband, said: “I think it’s fantastic, it’s a great team effort from the bakery.” Donations for the bakery’s efforts can also be made through www.justgiving.com/IVB.
