STUDENTS were given an insight into a career in science thanks to a pharmaceuticals company.
Herschel Grammar School pupils Aisha Afzal and Imra Hasan and their peers from Langley Grammar School, Amitoj Heer and Ravi Bir, were among a group of 20 from across the south east who spent three days working with scientists, doctors and undergraduates at GSK’s Stockley Park site near Uxbridge during half-term last week.
During the visit, the pupils took part in a series of workshops around drug discovery, development and clinical trials. They also had a go at basic manufacturing tasks and developed skills in marketing and doing job interviews. At the end of the three days, each pupil was presented with a certificate.
Nikki Yates, senior vice-president and general manager of GSK’s UK Pharmaceuticals business, said: “We have been privileged to be joined by such a lively group of young people. Each has shown a genuine interest in the mix of things we do to bring medicines and vaccines to patients here and around the world. I wish each of them well for what I am sure will be some exciting futures.”
