Tributes have been paid to a former mayor who died at the age of 68 following a heart attack.
Sheila Thorpe, who was mayor of Slough for 1993/94, died on Friday last week (10/4).
Mrs Thorpe was a Berkshire County councillor from 1981 to 1989 and served as a member of Slough Borough Council for Chalvey Ward from 1987 to 1995 and for Kedermister Ward from 1995 to 1999.
She was deputy mayor in 1992/1993 and was elected Mayor for 1993/1994.
A spokeswoman from Slough Borough Council said: “Sheila was a dedicated councillor who played an active part in council proceedings serving on a wide range of committees, most notably Community Services which she chaired from 1989 to 1993.” Mrs Thorpe and her husband Mike, also a former Slough Borough Councillor and former leader of the council, had moved to Cornwall and were celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on the day she died.
Cllr Mohammed Rasib, deputy msayor of Slough, said: “My thoughts are with Sheila’s family at this unexpected and sad time for them all. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.” The flag is flying at half-mast at St Martins Place in Slough as a mark of respect.
The funeral will be held at Glynn Valley Crematorium in Bodmin, Cornwall at 4.30pm on Monday, April 27.
