More warning signs for drivers who speed are being demanded by a Slough councillor.

Cllr Ted Plenty (Labour: Langley St Marys) made the call on Tuesday at a meeting of Slough Borough Council's community services scrutiny panel which he chairs.

He was dissatisfied with an officers' report that revealed there are only two sets of vehicle activated signs operating in the town- in Langley Road and Mercian Way, although there have 47 requests made to put the signs in other roads.

Cllr Plenty said: "This whole thing worries me - making me feel the need for these signs is not being taken seriously.

"I have been pursuing this for two years and it appears again to have been given a very low priority."

Vehicle activated signs (VAS) warn drivers when they are over the speed limit by flashing a warning.

Cllr Plenty said people much preferred them to speed humps and that they did make people slow down.

Cllr James Swindlehurst (Labour: Cippenham Green) described officers' response to requests for more VAS as a 'sorry saga'. He said: "Some roads have been waiting for them since 2012. It just makes us look inept."

Members agreed to press the issue with officers.
