Festive headwear came under intense scrutiny on Friday - when the children of Langley Hall Primary Academy Lower School had their home made Easter hats judged by teachers.

A lot depended on the result - as there were tasty prizes for the 12 winners donated by the Langley branch of Budgens.

The judging took place in the school playground and two winners were picked from each of the school's classrooms.

The school's parent liaison manager Faaiza Raja said: "After the judging was over some of the children went to Budgens to give the manager there a thank-you card."

It has been a good year for the school. A recent report by school inspectors at Ofsted gave it a 'good' rating overall - as well as individual good ratings for the teaching, pupils' behaviour, outcome and early years.

The school has its own positive behaviour policy and a code for the children to remember. The code says 'be honest, be gentle, listen and work hard, look after property and be helpful, show respect'.

Making a card to take to Budgens to give to manager Jane Lambourne fitted in nicely with the code. While children whose Easter hats did not win a prize got an excellent lesson in being pleased for their classmates.
