Police this morning confirmed that a house fire in Alexandra Road, Slough - which led to a woman and child having to be rescued - is now being treated as arson.
Fire crews from Slough, Langley and Windsor stations hurried to the scene after the Thames Valley Fire Control Service received a call at 1.46pm yesterday.
They found the child had already been rescued from the house by courageous members of the public who had gathered outside but the woman was still inside.
Firefighters then went inside wearing breathing apparatus and rescued her, putting the fire out with a single hose reel before it got completely out of control.
She was transferred to the care of South Central Ambulance Service paramedics, suffering from the effects of inhaling smoke.
Officers from Thames Valley Police began an investigation into the incident immediately and have since said it is being treated as arson.
*Police have confirmed that a woman has been detained under the Mental Health Act.
