Spring is here and this year's Slough in Bloom competition was well and truly launched this week.

The Mayor of Slough Cllr Arvind Dhaliwal met members of the competition committee at the entrance of Salt Hill Park on Wednesday, giving his blessing to the enterprise.

Entry to the competition is free and there are categories for residential front gardens, businesses, pubs and community groups. This year Slough in Bloom is including categories for allotment holders, widening the opportunity to participate.

It aims to encourage everyone to add plants to their surroundings, even if the majority of their garden space is given over to car parking.

The Royal Horticultural Society has a campaign called 'greening grey Britain' which aims to encourage just that.

Entry forms are available from My Council, St Martin's Place, libraries and community centres or by phoning 01753 595838. The closing date is July 1 and judging will take place in the week commencing July 10.
