An elderly man was rescued by firefighters after a blaze in his home at Crispin Way, Farnham Common yesterday evening.

The fire is believed to have started in a chip pan and crews from Slough, Langley and Beaconsfield used two hose reels and four breathing apparatus to battle it.

A man in his 70s was trapped in the smoke and was helped to safety. He was given oxygen.

Fire fighters were called at 7.20pm and were on the scene for an hour.
