A king who loved Eton College will have his birthday celebrated in traditional style next week when Eton College holds its June celebrations.

George III's birthday was in June and has been a landmark celebration for 250 years or so.

This year's event will be on Saturday, June 17, marked by speeches, cricket and picnics on Agar's Plough.

The usual procession of boats on the river will see the boys standing up with their oars and ornate hats - struggling not to fall fall in.

The big Saturday event is preceded the night before by the boys of the school cadet force staging a military tattoo on the famous playing fields.

The celebrations will mean waiting restrictions being introduced between 6am and 6pm in the town - in Slough Road on both sides of its junction with Pococks Lane north of the borough boundary and on Pococks Lane both sides of the junction with Slough Road eastwards for a distance of about 400 yards.
