POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of burglary in connection with a shooting incident on Monday morning in which a man was killed. 

The man was shot dead near the Colnbrook Bypass and has been named locally as Wayne Digby.

Mr Digby, in his forties, was found in open woodland.

Armed police were called at 3.23am on Monday after receiving reports of a shooting.

It is understood that Reuben Gregory, who is in his 70s, and his sister, Kathleen were arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. They are said to have lived in a caravan on the site for many years.

Thames Valley Police said today (Tuesday) that a 48-year-old man had been arrested on Monday night on suspicion of burglary in connection with the incident. He is currently in police custody. TVP did not confirm whether the man was connected to Mr Digby. 

The incident occurred in woodland at the side of the bypass opposite the entrance to Imperial Coaches.

The entrance to a pathway was cordoned off with an officer guarding it, while teams of police worked in the open land at the end of it gathering evidence.

Tributes to Mr Digby, understood to be a father of two, have been appearing on social media.

Cousin Mo Digby-Sheehy posted: "I can't believe I'm not going to see you ever again!!! Why does he keep taking my loved ones!!! Why! 
Have we not lost enough already! 
Please no more."

Family friend Sarah Aldrich posted: "Such awful news so so sorry for your loss" and Ms Digby-Sheehy replied: "Thanks sweetie. We're all in shock! I can't believe Wayne's gone.💔

"Poor Lisa, Ruth, Tracey and Carol.💔💔💔💔xxxx"

Sanj Ral posted: "Thinking of u during this difficult time xxx."

Senior investigating officer, Det Chief Superintendant Chris Ward said: “I would ask anyone who may have any information about the incident, perhaps you saw or heard something unusual in the early hours of this morning in the area of Colnbrook, please contact police by calling 101 and quoting reference 108 (12/6)."

“I must stress that this incident is not being treated as related to terrorism and there is no threat to the wider public.”

Update

Police confirmed today that a firearm has been recovered in connection with the shooting.
