Firefighters were called to an open field fire last night (Friday) in an area which had been taken over by travellers.
The Maidenhead and Windsor crews went to the overgrown area in Fifield Road, Fifield, after being given a police escort.
Three large bonfires of rubbish had to be put out - but the travellers had already moved on by the time the crews arrived around 7pm.
The land is private and firefighters had also attended during the day on Friday to find an initial bonfire had been lit by the travellers who were present at the time. Firefighters left the scene by 8.30pm and it is understood the travellers have already moved on to a site in Windsor Road.
