A 'phantom tree-feller' is targeting trees in Upton Court Park, Slough Borough Council has said.

The council has asked residents to 'help us stop the phantom tree-feller' after six trees were cut down, or stripped of their branches in readiness for felling.

Councillor Joginder Bal said: “Someone is going out of their way to fell some of the large trees in Upton Court Park.

“These are not broken saplings, it would take a chainsaw to do the immense damage we have seen."

Hidden stacks of freshly cut wood have been found in the park by the council's park team, leading them to believe somebody is felling the trees in order to sell the wood.

Cllr Bal urged residents to be vigilant and look out for anybody cutting down trees or branches in in the Park.

He said: “Our trees are precious and the only time we would fell a tree would be if it was dead, diseased or dangerous.

“Please do not assume it is us, as it isn’t.”

He encouraged residents to not approach the tree thief, but dial 999 or 101 immediately.
