Fly tippers who dumped all the discarded contents of a newly refitted bathroom in the road at Mansion Lane, Iver have been ordered to pay £3,000 between them in fines and costs.

John Joseph Mongan, 44, and James Christopher Mongan, 18, both pleaded guilty to fly tipping.  Milton Keynes Magistrates Court heard that the pair had been contacted in December by builders who had refitted a bathroom at an address in Ashford.

They agreed t o dispose of a bath, a toilet, a washbasin, tiles, plasterboard and plumbing waste at an agreed price of £180.

On December 7 police went to Mansion Lane, Iver. They found packaging labels within dumped waste which were traced to the Ashford address and evidence was gained from the householder and the builders.

John and James Mongan, of  Colne Park Caravan Site, Cricket Field Road, West Drayton, were interviewed and admitted the dumping.  John Mongan stated that he was doing his son a favour by driving, as he was not insured to drive the tipper truck used in the removal job.

James Mongan said it was his job and that they went straight from the Ashford address and illegally dumped the waste at Mansion Lane.

Magistrates fined the men £550 each on July 14, ordering them to pay £938 each towards prosecution costs, plus £55 each in victim surcharge - making £1,543, a combined figure of £3,086.

Afterwards South Bucks District Council Cabinet Member for Environment Luisa Sullivan, speaking on behalf of the Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, said: "After taking money to dump this waste properly, these men cynically decided to dump the waste on the highway and make an extra profit. Instead, it cost them £3,000."

The Waste Partnership launched the 'Illegal Dumping Costs' campaign in November 2003 and has secured over 600 convictions against individuals and companies for illegal dumping and related offences.
