The flag was flying at half mast at Slough Borough Council's headquarters at St Martins Place this morning - following the brutal attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils yesterday.

They have left Slough Borough Council’s community cohesion members’ group shocked and saddened.

They have released a statement saying: “We stand with the world in condemning these attacks and the cold-blooded slaughter of people going about their daily lives, enjoying their holidays, soaking up the atmosphere of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

“There is no reasoning, no excuses that can justify this unprovoked and unwarranted slaying of innocent lives.

“We add our voices to those around the world; terrorists do not represent us, this does not represent any faith, no religion sanctions acts of evil.

“Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and friends and we ask Slough residents to come together and support each other, stand together, united against those who would try and divide us, united in our belief in freedom, community and peace.”

The flag at the main council headquarters, St Martins Place, is flying at half mast as a sign of respect.

The community cohesion group was set up in 2014.

The cross-party, multi-faith group is made up of: Councillor Mohammed Sharif, Councillor Sohail Munawar, Councillor Madhuri Bedi, Councillor Wal Chahal, Councillor Preston Brooker, Councillor Nora Holledge, Councillor Ishrat Shah and Councillor Joginder Bal.
