A Fun Dog Show being held on Saturday will raise money to support a sanctuary offering refuge to animals that have been beaten and abused.

The show is at Ye Olde Red Lion Pub on Oakley Green Road, Windsor in aid of the Dogs Nobody Wants Sanctuary - which is run at their home in Slough by Matthew and Christopher Young.

The sanctuary is non-profit making and has has dogs referred to it by several charities including Safe Rescue.

Jo Drury, of Hawtrey Road, Windsor is a friend of the Youngs and a dedicated fund raiser for the sanctuary.

She said it has 11 resident dogs, including Rocco who is three-years-old and was so badly beaten by a former owner that his back was broken, Leah who was paralysed following a car accident and has her own wheelchair, plus DeeDee, a six months old who lost a leg after a car accident.

The show starts from 10.30am. There will be prizes with rosettes and goody bags for winners and a best in show award for the overall winner at 2.30pm.

Miss Drury said: "We are also looking for our 'Dog of the Day', this award is to find one really special dog with a story to tell... It could be a dog with an abused and sad background, injury, illness. lost and found or just a true survivor.

"Last year's winner was Murphy, a young chocolate Labrador with terminal cancer who captured the heart of the crowds. He sadly lost his battle with the disease earlier this year so we are dedicating this year's Dog of the Day in memory of Murphy and his owners."

There will be a chance to take part in a trick training demonstration, dog grooming, food, snacks, face painting, sand art, stalls and the chance to meet the residents of The Dogs Nobody Wants Sanctuary.
