The man who invented 'sitdance' was a welcome guest at Langley Care Home in Rambler Lane on Monday.

Marcel Baaijens designed the exercises so that older people with mobility problems could move to songs from their younger days, while having their memories stimulated by familiar lyrics.

Teenagers from the Berkshire National Citizen Service scheme helped residents decorate for his arrival ended up staying on and joining in with the fun.

Roxana Chirita, activities co-ordinator at Langley Haven, said: "Marcel Baaijens is touring the country and began and ended at Langley Haven.

"Sitdance is about more than sitting and moving to a song. There are songs that everybody knows and doing the familiar movements that go with them is something people of all ages can do.

"We did not tell the teenagers who decorated for the party he was coming so it was a nice surprise for them after all they had done for us. Everybody had fun."

The Berkshire National Citizen Service scheme has seen teenagers aged 15 to 17 volunteering to help in the community across the county.

Young people from the scheme will be at Cippenham library in Elmshott Lane tomorrow (Saturday) from 11am to 3pm - with entertainment they have prepared for children including face painting, biscuit design and lots more activities.
