A random arsonist has been on a fireraising spree overnight.

Slough firefighters were called out constantly between 11pm last night and 4am this morning after sheds, fences and fir trees along the area of Canterbury Avenue, Hatton Avenue and Cumberland Avenue were set light to.

Fire crew manager Simon Thripp said that the perpetrator seemed to have caused the damage without actually trespassing on peoples' property.

But he warned it could have had disastrous consequences.

He said: "It was very dangerous because the weather has been so dry. It could quickly have escalated. The fir trees were well alight."

Police were called and looking for the culprit.

Anyone who can help police with their inquiries is asked to ring 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
