Rolling out the barrel is becoming quite a Slough tradition each August - and Sunday was no exception.

Five teams lined up outside the Curve, each with their own barrel which they proceeded to roll into four pubs stopping at each for a pint and a game before rolling on to the next.

Staff and regulars from four pubs - The Rising Sun, the Moon and Spoon, the Wheatsheaf and the Red Cow, plus the Slough Town Supporters Trust team competed against each other.

The winners were the Moon and Spoon Team, who each dressed to reflect the name of a Windsor beer - Joseph Durham representing Guardsman beer and Jerome Bristol representing Knight of the Garter beer.

Ian Reynolds, who organises the barrel run, said: "It is not a race. But the team won because they were the best dressed and stuck to the rules, drinking a pint in each pub and taking part in the game that had been laid on."

The team from the Rising Sun ran them a close second in their pirate gear - with manager Imogen Byrne cutting a dash with her cutlass.

The Red Cow was chosen as having the best garden - having created a real Alice in Wonderland ambiance for the arriving barrel rollers while the team dressed as characters from the famous story.

The Slough Town Supporters were chosen as the team with the best decorated barrel.

Mr Reynolds was the deputy manager of the Moon and Spoon when he started the barrel run seven years ago.

Over the years it has raised money for a host of charities - this year money collected will all go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Mr Reynolds said: "We are still counting it all up but the result will be announced and there will be a proper handover.

"Hopefully we will be back again same time next year."
