Five talented hospitality and catering students shared their skills with an older generation of enthusiastic volunteers last week.

The students were from Langley College - part of Windsor Forest Colleges Group. They were visiting Langley Haven Care Home in Rambler Lane on Wednesday to help residents celebrate the opening of a new 'memory room' there.

The students delivered an interactive masterclass in napkin folding and demonstrated how to professionally layout a dinner table.

The residents even had the chance to have a go at napkin folding themselves, with a little help from the students. One student Edward Agyekum, 17, said: “I really enjoyed speaking to the residents and hearing their stories. It was a good experience for us to be serving food in a different environment and to meet lots of new people we wouldn’t normally meet.”

During the afternoon the new Sam Wylie Memory Room was unveiled. The room is designed to stir memories among residents at Langley Care Home with its exact recreation of past eras and has been named after former resident Sam Wylie who died last year aged 94.

His widow Rita Wylie and her daughters Angela and Samantha joined the care home's owner Renuka Dhalla cutting the ribbon to unveil the room.

A guest appearance by Slough's mayor Cllr Ishrat Shah added to the occasion as students served the food.
