Emergency staff who daily work to help sick or injured adults and children lives received a welcome thank-you gift last week.

Members of Burnham Beeches Golf Club visited Slough's Wexham Park Hospital to hand over a cheque for £13,000 to staff working at the adults' and children's accident and emergency departments.

The money will be split between the two.

The club raised more than £13,000 and captains David Barker and Paula Oates presented the money last Wednesday.

Paula Oates said: "A couple of the departments’ staff play at the club and I’ve often seen them advising members about various ailments and helping people out.

"Having used the A&E at Wexham Park myself, I just felt it would be nice to give something back locally and I’d like to say a special thank you to all our members for getting behind the charity and donating all that money.”

The club held a variety of events throughout the year to raise the money including a charity golf day, bridge drives, plant and cake sales and raffles, along with individual donations from generous club members.

Jo Hawkes, emergency department matron said: “We are blown away by the generosity of Burnham Beeches golf club – it’s a fantastic amount which will be put to really good use to benefit our patients. I would like to thank all the members for their fundraising efforts on our behalf.

“We are so fortunate to have such community support for Wexham Park Hospital.”

Staff plan to put the generous donation towards funding a magic carpet for the children’s A&E and a specialty chair for adult emergency patients.
