Villagers facing major house building on their doorstep were given a preview of what it could look like on Wednesday.

Datchet Village Hall played host to an exhibition staged by developers Inland Homes, who want to build 150 homes on land to the north of London Road and east of Riding Court Road.

The site is Green Belt - but if the Royal Borough's proposed new local plan gets a Government go-ahead this summer, it will one of several such sites that will be opened up to homes across Windsor and Maidenhead and their surrounding villages.

There are also plans - not involving Inland Homes - to make Green Belt sites available on land north of Eton Road and adjoing St Augustine's Church for 35 homes. Land east and north of Churchmead School, in Priory Way could also be cleared to allow 175 homes.

Ben Johnson from Inland Homes was present at Wednesday's exhibition and answered questions from visitors. He said that people had accepted that homes needed to be built but that the company was aware of worries about possible flooding risk or extra congestion from new building and was looking at ways of meeting the concerns.

No actual planning application has been put in yet but Mr Johnson left no doubt about the speed at which his company would act if the council's plan to release the Gren Belt site for housing got the Government go-ahead.

He said: "We want to be ready to go."

Among those who came to view the plans were Yaro Svirsky, 31 and his wife Aya, 28.

The pair came over from Israel and made their home at The Green, Datchet two and a half years ago. He develops video games and she is a Visa risk analyst.

Mrs Svirsky said: "We are concerned about amenities. The health centre is quite stressed at the moment and it can be difficult to get an appointment.

"We certainly need more homes but parking and traffic issues will need to be considered.

"We chose Datchet to live in and there is obviously going to be change. I would like to keep the Datchet village atmosphere."
