Dedicated writers who have been meeting and inspiring each other for 50 years are celebrating with a 154 page 'gold' anthology featuring the work of 29 members of their group.

There are tales of love, wonder, sacrifice, revenge and regret - available to buy from Slough Writers for £5.

Slough Writers was established in 1967 as a spin-off from a creative writing class run by Slough Council. Members have continued to meet every Monday evening since, originally at the old Slough library now at the Palmer Arms pub in Dorney.

During its 50-year history, the group has supported hundreds of local and not-so local writers.

Notable names include Charlotte Betts, author of seven historical novels including The Apothecary’s Daughter and The Palace of Lost Dreams.

Best-selling author Carole Matthews is a firm supporter of the group and has spoken there on several occasions - while during the 80s and 90s Ernie Wise was president of the group.

Terry Adlam, scriptwriter, columnist and author of five comedy books has been chairman since 1992.

He said: “We’ve enjoyed many highlights and successes over our 50-year history. As well as helping people garner success from their writing, we’ve been involved in numerous community events, published two anthologies and for the past four years, we’ve supported Burnham Library by producing drama showcases. Our members have produced, directed and performed in over 20 self-penned plays to help raise funds for the library.”

As well as hosting speakers, workshops and manuscript evenings, the group holds at least three competitions a year, judged by professional writers, editors and journalists.
