A new resident at a busy care home has proved a huge hit - even all the others have to help look after her.

Bambi the rabbit arrived at Langley Haven Care Home in Rambler Lane, Langley in January.

Roxanna Chirita, activities co-ordinator there, said that her arrival had had quite an effect.

She said: "People with dementia often have changes of mood and exhibit challenging behaviour. But when Bambi is around you can see everyone smile. People who used to be isolated started to socialise by talking about her. They get up in the morning and want to go and see her.

"The residents look after her themselves, feeding her and making sure she is all right. It gives them a purpose."

April is National Pets Month and Ms Chirita hopes other care homes will follow Langley Haven's example and bring in a four legged resident to cheer up residents.
