DOZENS of motorists were fined for not wearing a seatbelt while driving.

Road safety checks on Bath Road in Slough were carried out by officers from the Roads Policing Department and Road Safety Officers from Slough Borough Council on Friday last week between 8am and noon.

Of those stopped, 19 were issued with prohibition notices by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) for various defects relating to the mechanical fitness, 10 of which were for having excessive window tints and 39 people were given fixed penalty notices of £60 for not wearing a seatbelt. They were given the option of taking an online £25 course on seatbelt awareness, which if completed would mean the fine is cancelled.

PC Bob Wade, Road Safety Constable for the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership, said: "The amount of vehicles requiring prohibitions indicate that dangerous vehicles are still a problem on the roads that requires constant activity to counter.

"It is always disappointing to see such simple road safety measures not being taken on board by a number of drivers today. In respect of excessive tints on the windows, this modification is illegal."

Five drivers were given a £60 fine for using their mobile while driving and given three penalty points, but offered the chance to attend a Call Divert education course in place of the fine and points.

One driver got a £60 fine for not having a valid MOT certificate and another was fined £60 and given three point for having a defective tyre.

how about doing some policing and checks on wexham road at school times? kids dont have seat belts on, some kids are standing up while the cars are moving and the drivers are too busy to see what is in front of them until its too late.you see so many people on their mobiles while driving. i think its awful. at the moment there are road works going on wexham road just b4 the bridge, the padestrians lights only work when they want to and the nice brave workmen working at the site of the school try to help kids and their parents cross the road safely but car owners dont want that, they just keep on going even though there is a person standing in the middle of the road with a BIG YELLOW SCHOOL SIGN SAYING STOP.children crossing.

Hummy because there are not enough police officers so everyone can have one assigned to them 24/7.

i think they should be doing insurance spot checks, thats a hidden danger. its bad enough you get hit, then you find out noones going to be paying for your healthcare after. if they dont have insurance then haul them off to court.

also, on another note, when is the government going to insist that eastern europeans who live in the uk with the car that they brought with them have to pay road tax the same as the rest of us?
