Roaring blaze started from catering lorry carrying gas bottles
A CATERING lorry carrying gas bottles was burnt to the ground in a roaring blaze at the multi-million Pinewood Studios site.
The van was only metres away from one of the filming studios at the Iver Heath site, in Pinewood Road.
Two nearby buildings were also badly damaged in the blaze at 10.15pm last night where smoke could be seen from half a mile away.
Fire crew from Slough, Langley, Gerrards Cross and London spent more than three hours tackling the blaze.
Watch manager Bob Skinner said: "When we were travelling down the Uxbridge Road we could see the smoke.
"The lorry was well a light when we arrived - it was near to the filming studios. It was parked between two buildings which as a result, from the heat and flames, were visibly damaged."
The lorry stored LPG gas canisters to supply the catering cookers.
One of the damaged buildings contained food supplies. The other was believed to be a catering firm's office.
It is believed the fire could have started because cooking equipment, in the back of the lorry, was not properly shut down.
However Mr Skinner added: "We are not too sure how it started but the fire was in the rear part of the lorry. It could have been a lot worse."
The blaze was only 100 yards from a building covered in scaffolding and tarpaulin.
He added: "Luckily, it didn't catch light."
Fire fighters left the scene at 2pm.
The new James Bond film Skyfall is currently being filmed at the site's famed James Bond set.
