A 22-year-old man who seriously assaulted another man at a pub was jailed for a total of five years.

Matthew Higgins, Priory Road, Slough, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday January 27 for causing grievous bodily harm after pleading guilty.

He used a pint glass to attack a 24-year-old man in the Kings Head, Cippenham, n November 2011, before punching him after the victim complained to Higgins about touching his girlfriend inappropriately .

The victim's left eye socket was fractured and he was left with a cut to his cheek and small cuts to his ear.

An 18-year-old man has also been charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear before Slough Magistrates court today, for a plea and case management hearing.

Det Con Emma Mullenger, investigating officer, said: "This was a nasty attack on a victim who describes going across to speak to Higgins in a non-aggressive manner. It is simply unacceptable for violence such as this to be used."
