SLOUGH'S council leader has welcomed proposals to invest £100m in 'revolutionising' the town centre.
The Observer exclusively revealed last week ambitious plans from The Queensmere Observatory owners Criterion Capital to redevelop the face of the town centre.
The proposals would revamp Queensmere Shopping Centre into a 'vibrant social scene' with glass front-facing shops, restaurants and cafés.
Plans include five buildings - ranging between 14 and 19 storeys - that would offer new homes for 2,000 residents and dramatically change the Slough skyline.
Councillor Rob Anderson, leader of Slough Borough Council, said: "We welcome any new investment in Slough. The town centre is in need of regeneration to meet the standard of the Heart of Slough project.
"We will study the proposals for the new investment and look forward to working with them to get the best outcome for the town."
Developers hosted consultation sessions at the centre, in High Street, on Thursday to Sunday last week.
Sundeep Bhavra, from designers GA&A Architects, said: "The responses were generally very positive - it's clear Slough residents can see the need for an investment like this in the centre of Slough, to help the town live up to its great potential."
Developers will take on the feedback before submitting plans in 'the coming weeks'.

Report commentHave you been on holiday moderator? god help the people in the town you visited, i bet you're a barrel of laughs, do you moderate everything you do? must be a sad life? there's nothing offensive in my posts, maybe not lefty enough? maybe i'm not in the Councils pockets like your paper? maybe it's because i can see through all the hyped up news you print, your paper never questions anything, don't you have investigative journalists? or are they all Labour lapdogs?
As i said, the paper is a joke, the only reason this towns council and councillors and the paper get away with things here is because the town is so apathetic, but unless you ban me ;-) I'll continue to post, and bravo for free speech!
