Mum's memorial for 'special angels'
A MOTHER who lived through the tragedy of losing a baby has set up a special ceremony for bereaved parents to honour their 'little angels'.
Devastated parents Madhu and Sunil Bedi, from Colnbrook, made the heart-wrenching decision to turn off their son Vishaal's life support machine a day after he was born prematurely in 2003, following complications.
Mrs Bedi found there was nowhere for parents, family and friends to come together and reflect on their loss with other families. The determined mum, who had son Nihal three years later, has set up the Little Angels Remembrance Service, for bereaved parents to remember and honour the memory of their lost loved ones.
Mrs Bedi said: "We had to make a heartbreaking decision and ever since that, it has been in my heart to set this up. A service like this has never happened in Slough before.
"When you lose a child there is nothing like it - it's horrific. The service is a chance to come together with others who have encountered this loss, and remember our special angels in a sympathetic and understanding environment, no matter how long it has been."
Families will be able to light a candle at the baby memorial on Saturday, August 25, and release a helium balloon in memory of the 'brief, yet incredibly meaningful lives' of their babies.
Mrs Bedi added: "I envisage a day on which parents, their family and friends can come together to reflect on their loss with other families who have walked in the same steps and wish to mark the memory of their little angels in a special way.
"I've spoken to a few mums and this is something that brings us together.
"I'm praying if this works it is something we can do annually."
The service, due to be held at Slough Crematorium, in Stoke Road, at 10am, was set up with the help of crematorium staff and Slough's E Sargeant & Son Funeral Directors.
