A POLICE chief has spoken out to reassure residents fearing a repeat incident after Wednesday's suspected terrorism attack.

A murder inquiry has been launched after a soldier was killed in a machete attack with two suspects shot and wounded by police in Woolwich, London.

Richard Bennett, assistant chief constable for the Thames Valley, said: "We are aware some members of the public may be concerned a similar incident could happen in their community. "There is nothing to suggest this might happen. Thames Valley Police officers will be on patrol and offering reassurance to any residents who approach them with concerns, however after considering the intelligence in the Thames Valley, there is not believed to be any requirement to place extra officers on patrol at this time."

He added it would be kept under continuous review.

The attacks have been condemned by Muslim leader Mohammed Ayub. The Stoke Poges Lane mosque treasurer said: "The act is barbaric and despicable. They are not human beings. Everyone is frightened, there is no doubt about that."
