THE UK Independence Party (UKIP) has launched an all-out recruitment assault in the town with more than 30,000 leaflets and DVDs delivered through letterboxes.

Slough branch chairman Ken Wight said up to 30 party members have been out delivering the campaign leaflets and DVDs across Slough.

He said the campaign has cost around 700 and he is hoping to recruit more members and funds for further campaigning before next year's local elections.

He said: "We are building for next year. If we could get 42 candidates [to stand in every ward in Slough] it would be great. Our emphasis is on local issues and that is what people are worried about - that's what we will be focusing on."

The team has delivered campaign literature to houses in wards including Britwell, Chalvey, Wexham and Upton Lea. They were due to finish off delivering in Foxborough this week.

Mr Wight, of Plough Lane, South Bucks, added: "The point of these leaflets was to let people know we are here, to raise money and build up membership and get donations. The response has been brilliant."

He said the DVDs were provided free of charge by the national party.

Mr Wight resurrected the local branch 18 months ago when it had around 20 members. He said it now has more than 50, with a flurry of 12 signing up in the past two weeks.

The party stood a candidate in every ward at the 2012 local elections and although it did not win a seat the party picked up 2,792 votes.
