REGENERATION works to transform the basin of Slough canal into new homes and a community hub are due to start this year.

The council wants to build canal side homes, a new community centre and transform Bowyer Playing Fields as part of its £1bn Slough Regeneration Partnership.

Plans for the basin, in Stoke Road, include providing facilities that will attract visits to the canal and towpath, enhancing nature conservation and consider visitor moorings on the north side of the canal.

Cllr James Swindlehurst, speaking at a cabinet meeting on Monday, said: “Want to make the development deliver and be a community hub for Central, Elliman and Wexham wards.” He said the community hub would be similar to the Britwell Centre, which was opened a year ago last week.

The Slough Regeneration Partnership is a joint venture between the council and developers Morgan Sindall to develop 39 sites around the town. Other projects due to start this year include building homes at a derelict site off Ledgers Road and the site of the former Wexham Nursery.
