A BUS lane which is hoped to improve journey times has opened in Farnham Road as £1.4m roadworks at the Tuns Lane junction near completion.

The peak-time only lane, which runs between the railway bridge and the Tuns Lane junction, is open to buses, taxis, motorcyclists and cyclists between 7am and 10am, and 3pm and 7pm, every day.

It is open to all traffic for the rest of the time. The works, to ease congestion, are due to be finished by the end of May. An intelligent traffic light system that adjusts the sequencing of lights in line with traffic has already been installed.

The final phase of works will include upgraded traffic signals and pedestrian crossing in Farnham Road between Buckingham Avenue and Whitby Road.

Phasing of lights in Cippenham Lane at the Copthorne roundabout will also be made in the coming weeks, with the lights left on red for longer to allow traffic on Tuns Lane to clear quicker.

Savio De Cruz, head of transport for Slough Borough Council, said: “We’re nearly there with the works at the Tuns Lane junction, with some minor tweaks possible in the coming weeks, and we ask people for their patience while the remainder of the work is completed.”
