A ‘SICKENING’ robber has been jailed after he fought an elderly woman to the ground and stole her handbag.

Adrian Hogg, 33, of Furnival Avenue, Slough, was sentenced to four years in prison at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday, August 6, after he pleaded guilty to the offence during the third day of his trial.

Hogg robbed his victim, a 79-year-old woman, of her handbag as she walked home at around 11.20pm on Sunday, June 30 last year.

The woman was returning home following a night out with friends at a working men’s club, and had not long said goodbye to one of her friends when Hogg struck in Furnival Avenue, at the junction with Farnham Road.

Hogg forced his victim to the ground where a struggle ensued as the elderly woman battled to keep hold of her bag.

In the struggle, the back of her head continuously hit the road and she sustained bruising and swelling to her elbow.

Some of the items in the handbag fell out as Hogg tried to run off, and he returned to collect them, before leaving again, leaving his victim lying on the ground.

The victim’s friend, who was still close by, came to her aid with two members of the public, and the police arrived soon after.

PC Thomas Aslett, officer in the case, said: ”This was a particularly nasty robbery on an elderly lady who tried in vain to protect her belongings.

“She had enjoyed a night out with some friends and was in the process of walking home when Hogg struck.

“His actions were completely unjust and sickening and I am pleased with the sentence he has since been given.”
