A NEWLY appointed governor and poet from India came to Slough to share his work.
Haveli Banqueting Suite, in Stoke Poges Lane, Slough, was the final stop of an annual UK tour of Indian poetry attended by Keshari Nath Tripathi and two other Indian poets on Wednesday.
The poets read out their work written in Punjab, Urdu and Hindi, in front of a crowd of 120 people.
It was Mr Tripathi’s third time attending the tour and the 90-year-old said it would be his last. He was appointed Governor of West Bengal for a five-year term on July 24.
Ajit Nagra, community centres and development manager at Slough Borough Council, said: “He writes about life and how people should get along with each other.” He added: “It was a very good day, everyone was cheering the poets on and clapping like nobody’s business.” The three poets, who were chosen by the Indian government to accept the annual invitation by the high commission of India, congratulated Slough on its diversity.
