A YOUNG rugby star got a taste of the elite league as she gears up to kick off the season, writes Sunveer Sandhu.

Katie Vanstone, from Cippenham, placed the starting ball for the Wasps friendly match against Irish side Connacht at Adams Park, in High Wycombe, on Saturday last week.

The seven-year-old also met Wasps mascot Sting as the English side won the match 28-18.

The season for Katie will kick off on September 7, as she joins the under 8s team playing tag rugby at Slough Rugby Club, based in Upton Court Park.

The club offers free taster sessions for boys and girls aged five to 14. The taster sessions will run on Sundays throughout September from 10am-noon. Just turn up ready to play or visit www.sloughrfc.com for details
