WORKS are due to take place to improve the pedestrian crossing near Tesco.
A new toucan crossing is being built to allow pedestrians to cross Wellington Street in Slough safely, without having to use the crossing further down the road, and works will begin tomorrow (Tuesday).
Alterations will be made to traffic islands on both sides of the road to make way for the new crossing, although the existing crossing will remain unchanged.
The work is expected to take six weeks.
Darren Gotch, from the transport team at Slough Borough Council, said: “Some people have been choosing to ignore the pedestrian crossing provided and walking straight across the dual carriageway, which isn’t advisable.
“The new crossing will provide a safe, more direct route across the road from the shopping centre to Tesco.
“In the meantime we ask residents to use the crossing available.” The timings of the existing crossing and the new crossing will be synchronised.
