INCONSIDERATE motorists were slapped with £50 fines for parking illegally after a weekend crackdown.

Ten motorists were given the penalty notices on Sunday after police received complaints of cars parking on the pavement.

Vehicles in Alpha Street North, Slough, had parked on the pavement, and members of the public reported an elderly lady in a wheelchair and parents with pushchairs were forced into the road due to the pavement being blocked.

There are no parking restrictions at this location on Sundays on the single yellow lines, but the £50 fines were issued for cars that had driven on to the pavement.

PC Richard Lloyd, from the Town Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Parking on pavements, unless otherwise indicated and allowed by the local authority, is illegal.

“Drivers should give consideration to pedestrians, particularly those who use wheelchairs or pushchairs – it really puts these people in a dangerous situation where they are forced out into the road with limited visibility.

“Inconsiderate parking has a huge effect on the safety of pavement users. We will continue to monitor the situation and respond to concerns from members of the public regarding inconsiderate parking. I would like to remind visitors to the town centre that there are many parking options - both council and privately operated car parks - in the local area.”
