A COUNCILLOR has been caught using a fake blue badge to park in a disabled bay at a council meeting.

Wexham Lea borough and Wexham Court Parish Labour councillor Sandy Malik was caught by an Observer reporter using the fake, laminated badge.

Cllr Malik – chief whip of the Slough Labour Group until May where she was tasked with maintaining party discipline – said she had a genuine badge but put the fake badge on display because she was “in a rush”.

It was put on the dashboard of her car while she parked in a disabled bay next to the entrance of Chalvey Community Centre.

She parked there, despite several spaces available in non-disabled bays, before a Slough Borough Council education and children’s services scrutiny panel meeting at 6.30pm on Thursday last week.

She does have what appears to be an official blue badge, which she later showed to The Observer.

Cllr Malik added she often keeps it out of display because she has heard of them being stolen.

She later apologised for using the fake badge and said she would make a donation to a children’s charity to make up for the error.
